Director’s Report

“It’s not the winning; it’s the doing”

Elevating the “while you actually are trying to accomplish something” over the “feeling of elation at having done so” is at the core of the Kingswood approach to any endeavor.  Quite simply, “It is the doing” that counts most.  To us, the attempt to sail your boat solo is more important than being a terrific sailor who wins a regatta handily.  In the former, one has to look straight into the face of failure, while not succeeding is barely acknowledged by the latter.  Perhaps former is more fun, at least more fulfilling.

We could not resist this philosophical musing the morning after one of the greatest sports comebacks in history.  While Rob, a New England Patriots zealot, is on cloud nine today, Mr. Wiff, who is organizing this report, is not a huge fan of any particular team.  Thus, it was I who suggested to Rob just now that I’ll bet the Patriot players relished that rally while it was occurring more than they are celebrating the championship as they wake up today.  Well, at least they would be true to the Kingswood spirit if they were.  Here are a fast-found batch of photos where boys are quite evidently basking in the moment.
