Director’s Report

A 25 Year Old Photo Album, Part III

Here we go again with the third installment based on an old photo album from 1994.  Part I dealt with the close personal attention received by every boy at Kingswood.  Part II featured the routine of the morning instructional clinics.

Lunch  arrives at 12:45, fifteen minutes earlier than in 1994. (it is amazing how hungry everyone is at this hour.)  Boys return to their cabins for “rest hour,” a tradition not only mandated by the American Camp Association, but backed up by a strong intuition that is an essential part of every camp day.

Thus, we pick up the story of a typical day at about 3 PM, with the start of the afternoon program known as A Block and B Block. The scripts that caption the modern pix are quoted directly from the 1994 album.

AFTERNOON AND EVENING ACTIVITIES ARE PICKED DAILY
NO TWO DAYS ARE ALIKE
YOU ARE THE BOSS
THERE ARE “FREE TIME” PERIODS EACH DAY, TOO
BOYS ARE SUPERVISED,BUT DO THE ORGANIZING THEMSELVES
KINGSWOOD IS VERY MUCH UNLIKE SCHOOL,
AS YOU ARE ALWAYS IN CHARGE OF YOUR OWN TIME
Various photos from A-Block, which goes from 3-4:30:  fire building…
drums…
touch football tournament games…
mucking…
swim trips to nearby water holes…
rope swing excursions across the lake…
and sports competition versus neighboring camps
go on nearly constantly.
B-Block is that very popular supervised, but free time for all campers.
Indeed, the waterfront is open for swimming…
and boating…
or sailing…
or windsurfing.
Boys are free to choose…
and that’s what they love.
