For me (Mr. Wiff), cranking out those daily reports during the summer is pretty easy work. Sara posts a bunch of photos; I take a gander; a theme for the day comes to mind; Piece of cake.
But, now it is mid-winter and I have no such inspirations. So, what you get below is a simple stream of conscientiousness based on a few pics I grabbed from my albums at random. Naturally, each has a short story. Enjoy (I hope)
The best story out of the Holidays was Liam posing as Santa coming down the chimney…
and, as it was baby Anya’s first Christmas, Liam and Olivia were eager to share time with her…
to Sara and Baibhav’s obvious delight.
After Christmas, we made our way up to New Hampshire for a week, where I captured this first-ever “all-three looking at the camera” photo of Lexi, Maddie and Olivia.
Kingswood History insert: This 1950’s era photo is taken just in front of the right side of the Dining Room, where the road takes that right hand bend going down the hill. A remnant of the totem pole is on display in the ping-pong room.
Many of you know that I tell old “Camp Norway” stories all the time at council fire. In 1930, the property was home to Camp Neshobe for girls on Lake Fairlee in nearby Vermont before it became Norway. This ancient poster is in our kitchen powder room, so I see it many times every day! It’s hard to see here, but rendered in those trees are faces of people. Very clever.
This is our insurance man, Morris Gold, observing waterfront clinics being conducted by proper protocol. He also is smiling because I had just informed him that all new docks and access stairs will grace the premises come next June. An enormous upgrade!!
But, you can count on the same games and other well supervised mayhem on the waterfront. Andy guarantees it.
My favorite waterfront view is the tree stump just opposite the door to Alice’s and my cottage. Particularly in the morning, it appears as a crocodile with open jaws. That log is slowly eroding, but I can hope for a couple more summers…
Sara does not like it when I employ a certain filter (discovered purely by accident) on my digital camera. But, this is a pretty neat pic, correct?
This view of the Roadside hammock grove is also filtered. These lads have it pretty good.
Yes, we have a bit of a hammock infestation on our hands, but have added some useful rules for their use. Stay tuned.
OK, so one evening last summer I was just minding my own business on the porch of the Nature lodge, playing with my digital filters…when I mindlessly focused on the volleyball game going on way out there in front of me….
only to discover that I had inadvertently snapped one of the “pics of the summer.” Charlie Scruton (very tall) is attempting a spike, which is being repelled by Lucy Detrick. Of course, she now has this photo, which I assume is framed and hanging prominently.
So, that’s about it for now. Rob Wiff tells me that the likes of Julian Leibowitz are enrolling for summer 2020 and that first session is down to its last 10 spots. Better pay attention to his missives.
Bill and Taylor will be there, so you know you will eat magnificently…
plus the usual gang of creative counselors will be on hand. Again, stay tuned.
