Director’s Report

The Docks Go In…

Anyway.  We made good on our agreement with the local dock-builder who does custom work.  So, the docks were delivered quite a while ago, and were recently installed.  The gang plank down the Buddy Board side needs to be built, and, for that to be done correctly, the docks need to be in place.  Spanky and Stephanie were here to witness the installation.

It looks like a lot of hard labor, but it will be just a couple hours work to remove them at the end of summer and likewise when we re-open next spring.

You can see how high off the water they are and how wide.  Spanky and I walked on them the other day during a “Six Wind” (very heavy waves) and we were extremely impressed with the remarkable stability.  Another reason we need the docks in the water on a non-camp summer is so we can decide where to place ladders.  I don’t think boys will be able to pull themselves up onto the docks like they could with the old system.

Access to the fishing dock now is a breeze.  One day last summer, I tried to measure the distance from the main dock to the fishing dock and it was very close to 25 meters, the Olympic pool standard.  One of these days, maybe we can put in some swim lanes — hey, one is allowed to dream, eh?

Here is your new view from where the tower float will go.  Mike Fusco wants to put the tower into the water so we can study how it lines up with the docks.  And, of course, how can you miss noticing the new solar panels on the Dining Hall roof.  You can expect more reports on things like this during the course of the summer.

And, while this photo may produce some “campsickness,” the opposite of homesickness, you can take solace from the line that one mother used in an email to me: “The countdown to summer 2021 has already begun.”  I’ll close with a few more photos taken by Sara.  But, add up the seconds it takes you to scan down the page with knowledge that we are that much closer to the re-opening of Kingswood.
