The Changing Colors of Autumn

One of the silver linings to emerge from this most unusual year is that Sara has been able to stay at camp longer than ever before. Below are a few of her pictures from this fall. Locals say the dry weather (it didn’t rain all September) dulled the magnificence and vibrancy of the colors, but these pictures are still gorgeous (and just imagine what this might look like after a wetter fall)!

The view from the shore of Lake Tarleton never gets old…perhaps because it’s never quite the same. Here Sara captures the beauty of the far shore…twice.
Typically Sara has the Mem Field scoreboard in the background as she photographs lupine, but now its in the foreground with the fall foliage behind.

But the leaves weren’t the only things changing this fall. Kingswood refuses to stand idle, making campus improvements whenever and where ever possible. In a typical summer, a team of counselors would ready the Little League field. As the old adage goes, “many hands make light work,” and usually we use those many hands to remove weeds from the infield dirt and to get the contours just right. With no counselorial staff this summer, and no camper feet to tread down the weeds, it took machinery and these guys to get the field in ship-shape condition.

Spanky and Bryan have done an amazing job getting this infield in such great shape. I wonder if Spanky is brainstorming Jr. Kickball strategy or dreaming of going yard in Egoball?

We also seriously upgraded our basketball facility. As campers and counselors can attest, our old rims were VERY unforgiving, and the backboards were starting to show their age. Now we have brand new basketball stanchions, rims, and hoops.

Ever dream of hitting a buzzer beater to win PGB? Your odds just got better.

Rob has kept busy this fall by scraping and painting many of the cabins around campus.

All the cabins surrounding Pines Field are looking sharp. Thanks, Rob!

And Mike Fusco has given the Fieldside UNO a complete facelift – new paint, new floors, and new foot-operated stainless steel sinks (still to be installed)

Not only is this going to look much nicer, its going to be easy to keep clean!

While there have not been a lot of people at camp, the few who are there have been working hard to make the summer of 2021 the best summer yet! Of course, it hasn’t been all work…
