Hartel Smith
How many years have you been at Kingswood / what was your first year at Kingswood?
This summer will be my 15th! (if you include 2020) My first year was 2006
How would you describe your role at Kingswood?
Land sports extraordinaire and every man (I do whatever is needed of me)
What is your favorite camp memory?
Winning my first Bow & Arrow week during my last year of eligibility was one of my favorite camp memories ever. The feeling of winning after having been defeated 5 years in a row before that was an unforgettable one.
What makes Kingswood special to you?
The location and community is what makes Kingswood so special and unique. The incredible experiences I’ve had there and the incredible people I’ve met have changed my outlook in so many ways. When I was a camper, I kind of took it for granted a bit and it wasn’t until I grew older that I realized how special Kingswood is. I’ve met some of my best friends at camp and I wouldn’t trade any of it for the world.
What is your favorite place on campus?
Any field feels like home to me on campus. I have some incredible memories on Mem Field during Bow & Arrow Week, the soccer field during Ultimate BVT’s and the football tournament, the basketball court during PGB and even just shooting around. Pines Field is where I spent a lot of my downtime as I’m not much of a water person. I’ll always welcome challengers in Guide and to wind down days listening to some incredible music on the Pines Field stage. It’s hard to pick just one place, but it’s definitely one of the fields on campus.
What is your favorite A-block offering?
Anything frisbee related
If you were a camper, how would you spend your B-Block?
Playing frisbee golf or guide on Pines Field
What is your favorite Kingswood hike / trip?
Mt. Jefferson but it used to be trips to the Bradford Frisbee Golf Course
What is your favorite Kingswood special event (could be an annual event or a truly special,
we only did it once, event)?
Egg Drop is always so much fun, but Guest Chef Night will forever hold my heart
