I just posted a batch of photos, the first of which you see is about 10 minutes old. It was flat out cold at 8:00 when our half-hour-delayed reveille sounded. Or, did it? Maybe Spanky allowed the troops to sleep in almost until breakfast at 8:30 without arousing them. All I know is that sweat shirts galore were adorned by many folks. They will quickly be shed, however, as another warm, sunny day is upon us. This is reminiscent of August weather, which would be a non-story were it not the predominant pattern for the last month or so. Go figure.
I forgot to mention a major “warm fuzzy” I had a couple days ago as I was sitting on my (new) dock patio section watching the third period junior waterfront clinics. I counted 23 boats on the lake and eventually was able to confirm that all 23 were Kingswood craft being nicely supervised by the counselors. I was one very contented old fellow! You can see some of my photos of that moment in the first part of the “July 8 Pix” album.
Today starts off with another DEEP CLEAN, cabin activities, cabin meeting and full camp meeting at noon. Below are the topics for today’s discussions.
Today’s Meeting should focus on two major themes – cabin life / cabin dynamics and
sportsmanship.
For cabin life:
1. Do a halfway self check-in. Are there activities at camp you have not done that you want
to do? Are you making new friends or hanging out with friends from home or past years?
2. What kind of “visitor policy” do you want to have for your cabin? People from other
cabins should be welcome, but what boundaries or rules do you want to have?
3. If your cabin is getting a new camper this morning, what can you all do to help that
camper get in the rhythm of camp and the cabin?
For sportsmanship:
- What is sportsmanship?
2. What makes someone a good teammate?
3. How do you respond when a teammate makes a mistake? When you think a referee
makes a mistake?
4. What makes someone a good opponent?
5. What makes someone a good winner?
6. What makes someone a good loser?
7. What are some situations where it is hard to be a good sport? How can you still be a good sport in those situations?
