I’ll probably add to this report and re-name it sometime this morning. Wanted you to know that we decided to run the Lake Swim early in the morning. The beach was a busy venue from 7:30 onwards and the last camper – they all made the full cycle – just came in at 1 hour and 20 minutes. Much more on this and other stuff later as I want to be hustling boys and counselors for the weekly DEEP CLEAN. The campus is showing signs of wear and tear (naturally) and I want to see a recast!
ADDED 11:18 Sunday morning
You can see from the Video post that all 15 persons entered in the Lake Swim made it all the way. You can hear Raven and Mike counseling the boaters on the safety rules for spotting the swimmers. We take every precaution, to be sure. I was delighted to have the Lake Swim first thing on a Sunday morning when the lake was totally calm and there were far less logistical issues since everyone was fresh and no meals were missed or compromised. Excellent outcome.
I did get around to the DEEP CLEAN block of time and boys were cooperating nicely, even when I added some chores to their list of resets.
I have not seen the full list of topics for cabin discussions coming up soon but I know that each group is to talk about the upcoming heat wave that is forecast for most of the week. These boys are happily tired and we don’t want the heat cruds to knock them down so late in the winning first session. Mike is scheduling a mellow afternoon of activities down at the waterfront, which is but one example of how we adapt to the hot conditions.
Yesterday featured over a dozen games with our friends from nearby Camp Pemigewasset. I just added a few photos I took at the Little League baseball game. I included a photo of the three Pemi coaches, who have over 30 combined summers at Pemi among them. One of the fellows remarked how enjoyable it is to compete with Kingswood, as sportsmanship and participation are the signature of our alliance and both camps have deep institutional loyalty to back up our values. “I guess I won’t be back to break up any fights,” I teased them, eliciting the huge smiles you see in my photo.
Yeah, we won a few more contests than we lost, but that most assuredly was a tertiary reward for Kingswood.
