LUSH LIFE

June 24, 2026

Hello everyone. Here we go again with another summer’s worth of blogs from this near octogenarian camp guy.   Get used to reading these essays with both News Items and Photo windows open at the same time. (Actually, you need to toggle back and forth.)  Find them in your CampInTouch account and/or the Campanion app.

I will post my accounts most days by 10am or so, but it is up to you to remember to search for them. Sons Rob and Mike, who run the place, say they don’t want to cram inboxes with junk mail (for those who don’t care about camp – ugh) so they put you on your own.

Sara, Rob and Mike’s sister, is a professional photographer, and spends an inordinate amount of time in both taking and editing her pics. They are absolutely terrific and you will soon figure this out. Most days, I feed off her selections to juice up my blogs. We are both very busy otherwise, so we simply ask you to be patient with us as we endeavor to coordinate our efforts.

I take some photos, too, and often take the wide angles to give you a different perspective from Sara’s up-close renditions.

In the last photo of my “practice” file with today’s date, you will see Mike and Adam, our crackerjack maintenance team, delighting in pointing out Bobby Wipfler’s first campfire way back in 1952.

Actually, in 1951, when I was four years old, I lived in a cottage with my mother while my father helped run Camp Norway for boys not far from where I write these words today.  I ran away from mom every day, of course, and joined the other kids up the hill from our abode. 70 + years later, I can report that I have missed two camp summers in total since 1951.

My daily essays, then, come from a tad of camp wisdom garnered over all those years. When I report that it is cold and rainy, but the boys are having fun anyway, believe me. Additionally, we have 1000+ years of Kingswood experience on the staff this summer, and we can handle just about any condition.

The campus is lush green and quite damp from some incessant showers that have hit on and off for a week. Staff seeking certification in lifeguarding and wilderness first aid managed to dodge the raindrops just fine. What characters we have. Sam and Louis created a makeshift platform just big enough for a tent, which they anchored next to the dock, and spent the night. “Great sleep,” they both insisted.

Other counselors reveled in the cabin assignment “reveal” made by Klaus yesterday afternoon. They were so excited to learn which boys they would have as their charges. As they moved into their digs, I hollered, “Use a broom to get rid of cobwebs inside and out!”

Please check on this if you are visiting next Sunday.
