Most of the photos in today’s report come from that period of time from 3 – 4:30 pm that we call “A Block.” A Block varies daily — with the weather, boys’ moods and popular events being featured. Mike Wiff is masterful at creating both balance and substance on a daily basis.
The waterfront photos were taken during morning clinics but I include them so you can see it was a gorgeous New England summer day with perfect temperatures for all manner of outdoor action. Indeed, two hikes went out to the rugged (steep) Mt. Tripyramid — one being a day hike and the other the first leg of a three-day excursion into the Sandwich Range. Today being another beauty, these guys are wicked lucky — “wicked” being a local word meaning “very!”
Frisbees have always been a Kingswood staple and we can count on good participation whenever any disc game is offered. One bunch played frisbee golf and they got a lot of exercise going up and down the hills along our clever 18 hole layout.
Escape was another choice and I encountered these guys more than once during my rounds and found no easing of the throttle from beginning to end. I don’t know the rules of Escape, but could see that chasing, tagging, and getting sent to jail only to be released obviously had a sustained effect on the action.
Up on the soccer field, a lacrosse tournament with boys from Pemi and Whitman was the main event of the day. Our campers were playing very well when I got there and six different kids scored goals in the game I watched. Good sportsmanship prevailed throughout and that pleased me no end. The camps in our association (The Baker Valley League) all maintain an excellent perspective on summertime intercamp competition.
Lastly, a pick-up basketball game drew a mixed-age crowd. I always enjoy observing games like these, as they are played with a decent intensity, but never too much, and always with a sense of good fellowship and true fun. “Good camp,” as I am so fond to say.
