Bedheads Abound

Once per summer, I aggressively search for bedheads at breakfast. It was an easy chore to identify this year’s championship flight and I expect many of you will get a big chuckle out of this spontaneous posting.

From the Week 5 counselor photos album, note that we keep adding to this file as the week progresses. I knew that Don was building an enormous bear out of discarded wood fragments from a furniture-building company in a nearby town. I thought he had put the nearly-finished product outside the Roost for the sake of space, only to see the completed structure leaning over the railing in its permanent spot.

Twenty years ago, the Roost was built by Gary Giese, seen in a photo with George and Don, who stopped by for a visit and was thrilled to see that many of his original flourishes were still on display. If you come up to gather your son at the end of camp, try to check out this unique  Kingswood venue.

We have sent out several swim trips to neighboring waterholes which we give our own names to, such as Busted Rock and Big Eddy. Not more than 15 minutes away, these are very popular A Block choices. The water is freezing but those jumps off the high rocks (only those approved) are worth the shivers.

We have to limit numbers for several good reasons but always maintain a bump list for those who miss out first time. Any boy who wishes eventually gets his chance. This rule is in effect for all Kingswood activities. Never fall for that ruse “I was not allowed to go.”

Audrey, wife of Todd and camp office manager, is a very good photographer, one of many who often posts good pix on the staff communication site called Slack. Sara grabs the best photos of those offerings and places them in the weekly staff file. I complimented Audrey for those beautiful after-dinner pictures taken out on the lake. Don’t miss them as they tag Kingswood’s glamorous setting.

The first photo in the Week 5 album was taken this morning as dark gray skies continue to hover over paradise.  Cloudy days, however, are good news to Sara who accompanied the wake-surfing clinic yesterday in quest of shadowless pix of boys striving to “ride the wave” after tossing the rope.

The junior baseball team did very well in their game with our friends from Camp Pemi. Their teams are tough to beat and we all gave a loud cheer after the report last night at dinner. Bixby, seen in a NY (Mets) ball cap pitched a no-hit game.

Interestingly enough, Charlie Scruton, coach of the u-15 soccer team also acknowledged the evening soccer “friendly” with the same camp. Pemi beat us handily this time but Charlie reminded all those present that playing hard, being a good sport and a good teammate are essential traits here at Kingswood. They received an ovation identical to that of the younger baseball guys.
