“Brownies and Cookies, hurray”

“Brownies and Cookies, hurray”

July 19, 2024

At least once per session, I offer a short hike just off the camp property to a boggy area where living conditions are perfect for the carnivorous pitcher plants.  Bugs get trapped in their large jaws and thereafter are digested by the plant.  “This will not be a museum” I tell the boys beforehand and we had a good search on our hands. That and a beautiful trail made for a delightful outing.

In my album you see a benign series around the tetherball areas.  My target, however, was counselor Connor Neary, the “B Block Bush Patrol,” as we call the guy who just has to be a presence up the hill when so many boys are at the waterfront venues. You would deem it “back yard play” and boys love this time of day when they think they are free from supervision but not totally.  Good camp.

At the picnic supper, those old-timers with five or more Kingswood summers under their belts were treated to huge steaks. They were both tender and tasty and the setting in the picnic area could not have been prettier on this occasion.

Egg Drop, the all-camp event held up at the CIT Barn, cannot be described in detail.  You have to be there.  But, one thing happens every time and that is that every camper egg contraption gets destroyed.  Headmaster Evil (Sam Cain) made good on that promise, I assure you.

The “Wanted” posters shown in the Week 4 counselor photos provide some hints regarding Egg Drop to those of you who need to drill down on all camp events.

The pottery photos were taken at Robin Ascher’s studio just down the road from camp. She will be firing up her Kiln at the last minute on those porcelain creations. Interestingly, the fish caught last evening were landed just off her docks, visible in the rising moon photo taken by Todd.

I was not present this morning at the end of breakfast when Todd handed out those fishing trophies shown in my photo set. By the way, he has awarded those same trophies numerous times over his 35-year Kingswood tenure.

We are expecting quite a few of you on the grounds this afternoon. I am informed that the boys cannot wait for you to get here, partly because they will be happy to see you,but mostly because they know there will be trays of brownies and cookies for everyone.
