Someone wrote that on the whiteboard in Buzz City and I saw no reason to contradict the thought.
My large volume of photos this morning attempts to satisfy two items on my checklist – to feature some boys who have escaped (dodged, perhaps) my lens so far this session. We actually have an app that reports on “tagged photos” for each and every camper. I have a list of lads with 5 or less such monikers up to now and am chasing them about the grounds..
Most campers are in the double digit number of appearances, so no complaining is permissible.
My other checkmark goes next to counselors who make it into the photos. They have parents, too, who miss them and enjoy a sighting once in a while.
Our Kingswood Staff Manual (over 80 pages of essential stuff!!) starts with “The staff is everything.” You better believe this is true and I can assure you right now that stories involving boys’ counselors will fill your ears from now until Thanksgiving and maybe beyond.
“Camp is for the counselors” is another line I submitted to the manual long ago and it sustains the test of time. When a staff person has a wholesome time at camp and includes the campers in all the fun, the entire experience is gravy, both for them and for the kids.
I see a lot of these processes at work in the current moment and find myself very pleased. I can tell a counselor is up to the task by the way he runs his activities. Whenever he is on his feet, using his voice both soothingly when that attitude is required and with some projection as needed, I know he is working hard. My photos capture many of the counselors and those I missed simply did not walk in my path yesterday afternoon and evening. I’ll keep clicking.
Sara’s marvelous selections mostly feature the paddle trip down to White Sands at the southern end of the lake. An enormous flotilla, employing every craft we have, set out for this favorite haunt, and, well, you can see for yourself why this shallow spot is so popular.
Boys keep clamoring for touch football games so all five teams got their wish last evening after dinner. As is what is becoming a great tradition, we all assembled at the “Theater in the Pines” at 8:15 or so for some closure activity. Travis West led his circus sponsorship in a spur-of-the -moment performance in front of the stage, Sam Cain led a birthday bit celebrating Todd Sabiston’s 50 somethingth year, and Mike Wiff gave a heads up for the Lake Swim to happen this morning if Mother Tarleton awoke in a tranquil mood.
No such luck as the winds kicked up just enough to force a postponement, until tomorrow morning if conditions allow. No big deal; camp is fantastic nonetheless.
