Director’s Report

Cast of Characters (Episode #13): Q & A with Raven Owen-Beyer

What is your name?

Raven Owen-Beyer

How many years have you been at Kingswood / what was your first year at Kingswood?

Was it 2007? I have been coming every summer since.

How would you describe your role at Kingswood?

Technically I am part of our amazing administrative staff and the Head Lifeguard. I also sometimes teach improv and theatre games clinics and I am the unofficial staff feminism consultant. My son is a junior camper so I am a proud Kingswood Parent as well.

What is your favorite camp memory?

I always love the day we arrive at camp each year. Pulling onto that final stretch of 25c and then driving into camp, catching a glimpse of the lake and immediately hugging dozens of dear friends that we haven’t seen in a year. We always say it is the best day because it means we have a whole summer of great adventures ahead of us.

What makes Kingswood special to you?

My son has been coming to Kingswood since (literally) before he was born! Watching him grow up surrounded by all these amazing positive male role models each summer has been so incredible. Kingswood has been such a wonderful safe space for him to explore his passions, conquer his fears, and make lasting connections with boys of all ages.

What is your favorite place on campus?

Being in or on Lake Tarleton.

What is your favorite A-block offering?

California Beach Day!

If you were a camper, how would you spend your B-Block?

Reading or playing board games on the main lodge porch or on the waterfront.

What is your favorite Kingswood hike / trip?

Piermont and Moose Scoops

What is your favorite Kingswood special event (could be an annual event or a truly special,

we only did it once, event)?

The 4th of July

What is your favorite Kingswood meal?
Bagels with lox and pickled onions for breakfast. No better way to start off the day.
What is a skill or activity you learned at camp?
Water skiing. Paddleboarding. How to win an argument with Bob Wipfler.
If you were stranded on a desert island and could only bring one musical album, what would you bring?
By “musical album” you CLEARLY mean the original cast recording of a Broadway Musical, right? It would be a toss-up between “Fiddler on the Roof” and “RENT”. I will be staging my dessert island one-woman shows!
