Director’s Report

Cast of Characters: More Laughs with Jacob Dalton

Editor’s Note: You can’t get a straight answer from this character. During the “off season” he is a teacher, and at camp he is a stellar cabin counselor, waterfront instructor, and motivational speaker. His energy and humor brings a tremendous amount of joy to our community, and we are very fortunate to have him on our staff. But don’t expect to actually learn anything substantive about Jacob from the interview below!
What is your name?

I go by many names: BFB, The Brickmaster General, Clean E. Genie, Salazar Swamp…but my government name would be Jacob Dalton I suppose.

How many years have you been at camp?

This summer will be my 19th.

What activities do you lead at camp?

Recycling…I also refill the gas caddy occasionally.

What do you do in the camp “off season?” (e.g. job, school)

Currently I’m working on restoring a beautiful, light green 2012 Kia Sorento.

If you were program director and could bring one new activity to camp (or make one change to the way camp runs), what would it be?

One change I would make is to replace all of the lifeguard’s rescue tubes with the shepherd crooks, that way getting all the River Rat tubes out of the water at the end of B-Block is a breeze.

If you could build any new structure at camp, what would it be, where would it be, and what would it be named?

I would tear down the tennis courts and install a state of the art pickleball complex, featuring both clay and grass courts (perennial rye grass, of course). The center piece of this pickleball mecca would be a 2000 capacity stadium named the “Brian Atkinson Thunderdome”, after Grafton County’s greatest ever pickleballer.

What songs make you think of camp (and why)?

“Turbo” and “Rock and Roll” by Jimmy Lee; both songs take me to a state of pure euphoria and bliss when produced by his velvety voice. Oh and “Town Called Malice” by the The Jam.

What is the funniest skit or bit you’ve ever seen at camp?

There are so many to choose…anything with Nick Farrar, “Mike and Robby in the Morning” was great, Nate White’s sumo showdowns were always electric, Kelmo had a bunch of great bday skits…The bit with Matt Johnson forgetting the intro to the birthday song was particularly awesome.

What’s something you’ve never done at camp (that might surprise others)? (Example: never played frisbee golf, never been to Big Eddy, etc.)

I’ve never attempted the lake swim much to my chagrin…or gotten a hug from Scott Shupe for that matter :'(

What are you most excited to do at camp this summer?
To see what haircut Baibhav is rockin’ this year. Did he keep the buzzcut? Did he go back to the short and neat? Maybe a mullet is in the works? I for one am hoping that frosted tip are involved somehow.
