Director’s Report

Celebrity Chef Night

It could not have been a better evening for light rain showers.  Dinner took a couple hours from start to finish, replete with many camp traditions associated with this special event.

Bill’s Temple of Smoke was just one of several prep/cooking venues.  Mostly counselors, but even a few campers, got into the act, which in effect stole the kitchen from the cooks for a full day.  How we managed a good breakfast and lunch yesterday is beyond me.

People tended to dress up (by Kingswood standards) and Charmion introduced each celebrity chef, who gave the boys a description of the delectable delight of their creation.  Boys were not tricked by Andrew’s assertion that his flank steak really was horse meat, his platter being demolished by hordes of ravenously hungry troops.

Moussaka, spinach goat cheese blueberry salad, gourmet pizzas, green eggs and ham, a New England clam bake, cornish hen, General Tsao’s chicken, fried fish, salmon, potato pancakes ( I realize I have forgotten a couple of them, sorry guys) were some of the other awesome offerings.  You can guess your son’s selections by  the photos below.  There was so much food that seconds and thirds were easy to come by.

The loudest applause was saved for the kitchen staff, who had had to endure the onslaught of chefs, each with his laundry list of requests.

The showers ended just long enough for Bill to take the entire camp on a post-dinner stroll up the hill, while dessert was being set out.  There were several sugary selections, naturally, but Jan’s “sushi,” — rice crispy treats wrapped in fruit roll-ups took first prize on my rating sheet.

What a great moment to be a member of the Kingswood community!
