Cinnamon Toast Something-or-other
August 6, 2025
So, just now at breakfast, the counselors had a meeting across the way in the Main Lodge, leaving me essentially all by myself with 140+ boys. No big deal, usually, since the Dining Room is much quieter when there are no staff agitators around.
I nestled myself comfortably at a random table and struck up what promised to be a good conversation with the campers there. Then, Klaus appeared out of nowhere with this command, “Wiff, I need you to sit at my table during the meeting. Imperative.”
The boys there seemed like gentle souls to me and maybe Klaus was overreacting a bit, I thought to myself. Suddenly a slew of lads from other tables descended on us to beg, borrow or steal our cereal, Cinnamon Toast Crunch (I had to look it up.) Klaus, in his bottomless Kingswood knowledge trough, saw this coming and alerted the sheriff.
My photos, RIGHT NOW, show how we managed to make some fun out of our predicament and when we ran out of the toasties, Carter R. bolted off to the counter for a refill. “You won’t get the same cereal,” I admonished, to which he replied, “Maybe something better.” Cheerios, common, but my favorite, appeared. End of story. Some simple camp mirth.
My album contains more than just breakfast pix, but my camera ran out of juice mid-concert last evening at the Theater in the Pines. Maybe some staff-taken photos will appear in the week 7 album.
Sara got out there yesterday for both morning clinics and A-Block. Those dodgeball photos are not Bow and Arrow related, but I am informed that the sorts of artwork demonstrated by Declan’s Fireplace cabin sign will be judged and points awarded to the teams of those boys who are the most creative. Sunrise rays toasting s’mores? Not bad.
I like the way the program fellas are spreading out the end-of-session traditions so that they don’t all come at once, and overwhelm the campers. Tonight, we are having the autographed cabin photos session. Each boy should be bringing home a nice framed picture of his cabinmates with signatures collected from anyone he asks.
I’ll be snapping away at that event and you will have a full report on each of the final three days of the session.
