Colossal Interest

Colossal Interest

June 26, 2025

Read the first part of today’s blog in tandem with the counselor photos of week one. More pix are to be added, so keep an eye open for them. Starting at photo #4496 you can find the Carrigain offerings and the best view in the Whites.  At #4139 onwards, you can see the trampers on Cardigan.

If your son was on the fishing trip to Indian Pond, there is a dedicated album for that expedition. (I always refer to fishing trips as expeditions as the counselors organize them as if they are going to Mt. Everest!)  At breakfast a short while ago, Todd and Chava Palma Limon struggled mightily to lift the ice chest full of fish up onto the table, only to reveal Todd’s phone with a photo of Chava’s catch. Ever the promoter, Earl Angler (as the fishing Todd is named) brought up Jackson Fiske to demonstrate how to take photos that make the fish look big. Colossal Interest, part one: Another expedition to Indian Pond goes out this afternoon!

Sam Cain and the Pirate Cove overnighters made it back for breakfast. As Sam reported to all of us, they took off on their boating trek in hopes of establishing “a new world order,” but awoke this morning in recognition of the need to get back to camp to be fed breakfast. “Kingswood is safe for the time being,” Sam allowed. Colossal Interest, part two. Indeed, another group will head down the lake to Pirate Cove tonight.

At breakfast, Mike Wiff requested sign-ups for two more hikes going out today. One is to Mt. Tecumseh in Waterville Vally which sports terrific views of neighboring peaks. The other is to nearby Black Mountain, our staple “second climb” for those who had a good time on an easier hike. Colossal Interest, part three. A large group of boys could be seen gathering at the picnic tables to register for these trips.

The heat wave is over and today we awoke to clear skies and a whiff of autumnal breeze coming from the north. Hope this lasts long enough for us to get in all the scheduled activities, to include the hikes, fishing, and our first sports tournament of the summer, the U-14 basketball matches with close by neighboring camps. Colossal Interest, part four. You bet, lots of boys showed up for that sign up as well.

Again, I will paste the rosters of these rosters once they appear on our staff communication site. How did we ever operate without this modern convenience?

I also produced a late-in-the-day RIGHT NOW album, with zero editing. I was in a hurry, obviously, but will now clean that up a bit. My point was simply to capture the mood about the grounds.  Be sure to check from time to time to see if I am on to my promises!
