Fabulous Colors
Alice and I have just returned to Maryland after a week at camp. Our chore at Kingswood was mostly to sit back and enjoy the beautiful leaf displays.
Funny thing. The colors were very muted at first, almost a light pastel. Nice, but not powerful. Additionally, we sensed something was amiss as the breezes were northerly but the skies were somewhat hazy like they are during a July heat wave. Right away we figured it out that the Canadian wildfires, still roaring, were responsible.
No big deal. It still was very nice.
Then we started noticing changes, good ones. You could easily distinguish the difference that each passing day brought with it. I kept photo snapping the same scenes over and over, and I offer a few photos of the latter part of our stay to support the notion that the colors were about as good as any year. Good camp!
The water temperatures of Mother Tarleton reached the mid-sixties and Rob insisted that this was no worse than Big Eddy on a hot summer afternoon. So he went wake surfing as often as we will willing to drive the Ferrari boat. “How did I do?” he asked me. Having been exclusively watching the scenery about the lake, I had no clue.
On our last full day, Monday, we went over to Robin Ascher’s home at the northern end of the lake where we got a different angle on Moosilauke plus the prettiest colors of them all.
Indeed, the loons are still happy as 60 degree lake temps apparently are no incentive just yet for an evacuation southward to warmer waters.
