Director’s Report

Faces in the Crowd and B&A Start

Faces in the Crowd

August 2, 2025

I included several long-range photos in my album just now posted. You can find yours in there somewhere, one would surmise.

In a short while, after a deep clean (like it was a Sunday,) Bow and Arrow Week will commence. I will come back later this morning to give a report on this meaningful Kingswood tradition.

For now, I gotta go.

12:07 pm:  Bow & Arrow Week has started. The admin types, including yours truly, met in the Great Room of the Main Lodge at about 11:00. Sportsmanship was our topic and many campers spoke about the importance of team play, good winning and good losing, and respecting the referees.

Cheer positively for your own team and don’t diss the opposition. “Keep a good tone with anything you say,” suggested Mike. “Not that easy, but do it,” the boys all agreed.

“What if the score is 42-18 with two minutes left?” I asked them. “Try to keep it at 42 if your team is behind.” “Keep playing hard,” and “Win the last two minutes” were a few of the camper submissions.

Leave the game on the field, or as Stuart K. acknowledged, “Afterwards, have a normal B-Block.”  “Never let it affect your cabin friendships,” said someone else.

“Keep your emotions under control the entire week,” concluded Mike.

My favorite wrap-up question goes like this: “Why will it be a great week where all the good things we have been talking about actually happen?” Several decent commentaries were forthcoming, but Maddox P. hit the nail on the head when he remarked,” Because we say so.”

Down to the Council Fire we all trouped to witness the Introduction skits and the announcements of the rosters.

Much more detail to follow in upcoming blogs but know that today and tomorrow feature a lot of Bow and Arrow contests while Monday through Wednesday will lean in the direction of normal camp.  The grand finale of B&A comes on Thursday.
