First, the bonfire. It poured and sort of ruined the gig. Oh, Dan — a credentialed fire-fighter– finally got the darn thing going, but long after most of the boys had lost interest. My bad. I should have had him working long before the kids showed up. No big deal, as today dawns sunny and hot. Waterfront activities are certain to take the cake throughout most of this blistering day, even though two trips had departed for tougher hikes in the Pemigewasset Wilderness before the breakfast bell sounded at 8 AM.
Another area worth note is our wonderful food here at camp. Please know that we have no food budget, other than to keep the kids well fed. No doubt some of them could use five meals per day and this is one of the reasons we allow treats in the cabins, under supervision. The photos below show a “leftovers luncheon,” and you can ascertain that we often “over-produce” meals to both be certain boys get their fill, as well as plan for the popular leftover meals. That we ended up with leftovers of the leftovers speaks well of the volume of food available to all.
When you mail that ONE care package (size of a bread bag, please) remember to include both nut-free items, as well as food not possibly contaminated for having been processed in the same factory where nuts are used. Some boys have been disappointed to have their stashes reduced by the ever-vigilent Raven.
