Director’s Report

“Hey Kid, Look Up”

That’s been pretty much my attitude in the past couple of days as we hit the homestretch of the 2022 camp season.  The Tagged Photo report file indicates that every camper has been in his decent share of pix so I don’t bother hustling after this one or that one any longer.

I’ve put two albums up already this morning.  The first one features the swim meet and boat meet for the older campers yesterday afternoon.  On one of the muggiest days in decent memory, this was the venue to be at and I got to be the official starter of the swim heats between Bows and Arrows.

That album starts with the meeting in the shade of the soccer field yesterday morning after the Deep Clean of the campus.  The topic was sportsmanship and, after lots of talk and examples from past summers, we once again as a community decided that Bow & Arrow would be conducted with maximum sportsmanship “because we want it that way.”

Of course we acknowledged what makes a good loser and (equally as important) a good winner.  But it was that ultimate conclusion cited above that drew a pause to let sink in. Dividends for this thinking began rolling in almost at once as both Bows and Arrows cheered mightily for a swimmer struggling towards the finish line and later on giving sincere applause to the boat that finished last in its race.

The swim meet/ boat meet lasted nearly to the 6 PM bell for dinner, but it was pleasing to notice that the younger campers, who had a track and field meet up on the hot fields, had plenty of time to get in a most welcomed general swim beforehand.

The second album of the day captured the first boys down the hill after reveille.  They did laugh at me as I said “hey kid, look up” to each and every one of them.  I’ve told them 100 times that I am doing this for you folks, not for myself or for them!

Today, another hot one, the plan calls for a reversal of events, with the older campers doing the track and field while the younger ones spend their time on the waterfront.  I’ll probably stay down the hill, to get different kids in the lens this time, and, admittedly, to be where it is the coolest.
