It’s Been a Pleasure
August 11, 2023
The last batch of counselor photos have just been posted by Sara. Among the first 20 or so are taken from a hike that is a two minute van drive west on 25C. Sunset Cliff, Lake Constance and Freddy Pond make up the circuit and all three are prerequisites to get into the Kingswood hiking circle known as the Varsity Club. Towards the bottom are great shots taken on Mt. Jefferson, the third highest peak in the northeast.
Obviously, we pick good days for hikes like these since “for the views” is one of our accepted reasons for “Why do we hike?” Others include “for the challenge,” “for the camaraderie,” “to be one with nature,” and simply “because it is there.” Good camp.
Sara’s photo set has an odd order to it as she has scattered photos of the last day of Bow and Arrow. I just adore those Songfest photos and was quietly contented to see a split of the votes on the alma mater and the spirit song. That meant the final outcome of B&A hinged on the times of the “Clutch Relays” held earlier in the day. You can see the rope advancing in a couple of the photos.
Your son can provide all the details but each of 4 contests (8 “ropes” in total, each going separately) is timed and no one knows who the winners are until after the Songfest. The Bows had to win three of four of these Clutch Relay matchups to take the title. Adam B. cleverly announced the times so that the very last revelation would determine the winner of the week’s action. In a stunner, the Bows did just that!
Sara is very busy putting together all the general yearbook albums, private orders and her slide show to be shown at “Love-in” this evening. Love-in? That is the name we give to the final camp assembly of the session. First, boys go autograph seeking with their pennants and then folks can ask to say a few words of thanks or appreciation to him, her or them. These can and have brought tears to persons’ eyes.
I hope you are not late in recognizing this, but we have really nice boys at this camp and it is so much fun to have them here, having a blast in their eyes, and learning powerful life’s lessons as we see it. It’s been a pleasure.
