As a public service to our families, we offer an occasional vocabulary lesson. Words are in capital letters, answers at bottom. Note, too, that we start off with a few additions to last week’s installment –“Kingswood Around the Globe.” Keep those pix coming along and we will find ways to get them into our Monday RANTS.
DIASPORA: the movement of people away from their homelands and towards Kingswood
RANT: Anything that comes out of Mr. Wiff’s mouth
DRUBBING: a thorough defeat, such as those we hand to Whitman.
SOJOURN: a temporary stay somewhere. Charmion really was all over the place on her trip.
ANOINT: to smear or rub with oil, as Kelmo does most everywhere he goes
STRUT: to show off, as in the fashion of all cool Kingswood boys
PERAMBULATE: to walk. So, I guess you can perambulate to first base, too, when the pitcher throws four balls. See DRUBBING, above.
HAIL: to have one’s home. Tejash is Baibhav’s nephew and will surely be a cabinmate of Sebastian and Liam one day down the road.
ENGAGE: Sure, it means a formal plan to marry, but not in this usage. Eli merely is having a discussion with Snoopy.
DEVOUR: Eat quickly and eagerly, as Dante would do with any item of food
SPAR: to have a make-believe boxing match, which perhaps is not the correct word to use for any engagement with Kingswood’s Birthday Tsar.
RECONNOITER: to make a military observation, most likely in this case, on the lookout for Tarleton Jack.
HUG: close cousin to osculation — a light kiss, which I bet Will got, too
