Building on the momentum of last week’s Blues Buster, we continue to feature in this report both campers and administrators who are signed on to return in 2014. Next week will be our annual Christmas report, and then in the new year we will resume featuring more returning campers and counselors. If you are signed up to return, we surely have your picture, and we’ll feature your mug in an upcoming report.
I had a great conversation with Mike Phillips this week, who made it official that he, Michael, and Conner will be returning in 2014.
A lot of you may not know it, but Mike is currently in the midst of his second stint as an administrator at Kingswood- back in the late ’90s and in 2000 Mike was both the waterfront and assistant director!
Mike runs a tight ship, as demonstrated by the fact that he has pretty much single-handedly transformed cookouts and picnic lunches to orderly affairs. He also keeps us laughing all summer.
Here he is back in the ’90’s demonstrating a proper deepwater save to the lifeguarding team.
Even though the topic is of the utmost seriousness, there’s something about Mike’s performance which makes me laugh. Notice the perfectly executed stride jump!
Back in the ’90s the admin team was much smaller than it is now.
Surely great things were accomplished at this planning session!
This is from the Bow and Arrow Track Meet with Alan “Sweet Daddy” Thomson, holder of the all-time best score on the Kingswood frisbee golf course at -17. In fact, it was Phillips who came over the PA to address the camp: “Gentlemen, remember where you are at this historic moment: Sweet Daddy has just birdied 18 to finish the frisbee golf course at seventeen under!”
We hope seeing these great guys signed up to return puts as big of a smile on your face as it does ours. Stay tuned for more updates on returning campers and staff in upcoming installments. Happy Holidays!
