Mr Wiff’s Ferrari Boat Tour

It is hard to believe that summer 2026 is the fifth season for Kingswood’s Super Air Nautique, the boss of Lake Tarleton by unanimous acclimation. At the start, Nathan dubbed it the “Ferrari boat” and that name has stuck almost without exception.
Seldom does she go faster than 12 miles per hour, as the Ferrari boat spends all of its time executing the extremely popular wake surfing activity, usually all three morning clinics and B Block general swim. Off duty counselors are sometimes successful in getting Captain Marvelle to take them out during rest hour or A Block. Usually, wife Amanda drives and husband Nathan instructs. A most effective team!
11.8 MPH is the standard speed for wake surfing. When one fills all the inboard tanks with lake water the boat generates a large wave and the recommended speed manufactures the perfect environment for the activity. The boys love it. Check Week 6 Counselor photos if you are curious.
Yesterday we had a windy afternoon and the lake was rolling along as I went to dinner. By the time the meal ended, Nathan was advertising a Ferrari boat tour to boys for his evening sponsorship. I aways narrate these excursions so off we went.
As we passed the camp waterfront, we talked about Kingswood today versus Kingswood in 1985, our first summer at the controls. Night and day, trust me!
We pointed out the relative location of Kingswood’s trail that goes nearly all the way around the lake. Several of our camper tourists had done parts of the Lakeside Trail, as it is known.
The one photo in my current set, a simple shot of blue water and green trees, reveals White Sands, where some boys were having an overnight campout. We hollered but they did not hear us.
My featured photo was taken at the precise spot as the one mentioned above, and from that perch you can ascertain not only the breadth of our 415 acre lake, but also the near-complete lack of development. When I say you cannot see a lightbulb on the far side, I am being truthful.
Then, we encountered four loons, not a good thing really, as loons occupy their zones in pairs. Multiple-loon conferences have been going on all summer long and we suspect there is some territorial dispute being negotiated. Not just humans, eh?
The sunset was not spectacular this time, but those sepia colors were to write home about, as I am doing right now!
Ferrari tours always conclude with Nathan stepping on the gas a bit, maybe to 30MPH. He even brought blankets for the expected chill and occasional splash of water that landed in the boat.
