Director’s Report

Nimbus

Nimbus

August 1, 2024

I love word games and play them all the time.  I even subscribe to “Word Daily,” and got quite a chuckle out of this morning’s offering:  Nimbus. To save some of you the trouble of looking it up, know that Kingswood was consumed by a giant nimbus for several hours yesterday afternoon.

Mike had announced at lunch that “it might rain a lot, or not at all,” and I had to agree that this was the best we could predict.  There was practically no wind which meant that the oncoming storm would find a place to settle and then just hover.  T’was our turn, evidently.

Our rain gage overflowed at 5 inches and Rob thinks 6 to 7 inches fell between 3 and 7 PM.  No one was in any real danger and everyone followed our simple direction to stay put and wait it out.  They showed the Olympics in the Dining Room, for example.

At least Alice and I got to be entertained by our granddaughter, Anya, and that’s where my photo album starts the report.  Go to it now, thanks.

Whenever it rains hard, the Kingswood beach gets clobbered and yesterday rendered it unusable.  Lake Tarleton has always been a “runoff” body of water and you could hear the various small streams and rivulets pouring into it all night long. The morn, therefore, revealed even more of a complete washout.

But, I heard the chirps of the boys doing Polar Bear dips as my first sound of the day and knew in a heartbeat that all was just fine. Boys get excited when events like this one happen and my photos picked up the scent of their contentment at dinner.  “The campers are tired,” allowed Mike, “and they appreciated a chill afternoon and evening.”

Just now at breakfast, they all seemed to be in terrific moods.  The sun is back out and the program guys announced that all camp events planned for today currently are scheduled to go on as planned. Maintenance will fix the beach, too, of course!

Sara took the day off from photos, mostly because she hates dark skies, i.e., nimbus, but you can expect a full album tomorrow if the sun stays out.
