Director’s Report

Normalcy (Sorta)

To all observers save one, yesterday was back to normal for the Kingswood program.  I started to commend Mike for the seemingly seamless pivot (the word of the summer!) whereupon he rattled off some adaptations – soccer(futsol) on the tennis courts, a 12-13 year old basketball tournament, frisbee golf and dodgeball on the baseball infield.  “Hard surface” or “minimum impact” said Mike after each example. Then he accounted some on-the-lake arithmetic such as 20 boys boating, 10 to the rope swing across the lake, 9 boys on the Ferrari boat for a wake surf opportunity, and many more just enjoying an extended general swim.

This wake surfing activity is quite the craze and Sara’s “Last week  counselorpics” show more of this action than any other by a long shot.  Maybe, subconsciously, they were attracted to the blue sky backdrop for many of their photo opportunities.

Alice and I have a marvelous fortune of living in a cottage located right on the water.  That is literally accurate at the moment as the lake has lapped up underneath and it feels like you are on a cruise ship to look out the windows.  However, take one step into the grass and you had better have boots on, high ones.

Going along to breakfast just now, I was sloshing along when suddenly it dawned on me that Lake Swim II was taking place.  Why not?  The lake is flat as a pancake and it promises to be a warm, sunny day.  We seldom go with more than 15 persons for this event, hence the need for several renditions.  Every swimmer has a spotter in a boat and the big speed boats are piloted by lifeguards charting the progress of both the faster and slower swimmers.

Unfortunately I let my phone batter die on me, so I have to wait for it to recharge before I can add my up-to-the-moment photos. Sara is right here and says she is going back to her cottage to post her pictures of yesterday’s quite normal activity, “hard surface” and “minimal impact” as the lone caveats.
