Director’s Report

Potpourri Saturday

Today has  good promise to it.  It is warm, but not oppressive.  Some counselors, on their day off, are hiking, for example.  The kids are participating in a “stations model,” the genius of Mike Wiff.  Boys rotate as a cabin group from one activity to another, covering four venues in a couple hours time.  Most stops involve creative games, which I predict the campers will enjoy.  This afternoon features a few games with our friends from Camp Pemi.  After the picnic supper we probably will show the kids a flick, down by the edge of the lake, where everyone can chill out after a very active and productive first week of the new session.

Here are a few mini-reports on happenings I did not get to in any of the thematic efforts of the past week.

This bulletin board attached to Pines Cabin gets a lot of attention. It shows a dozen different Kingswood activities we hope campers will accomplish in their "camp careers." The display is alluring and we think boys are spreading their wings nicely.

One of the dozen is "Have you hiked a mountain with a view?" This bunch hiked the Welch-Dickey loop yesterday in Waterville Valley.

"Those wonderful hardships," highlighted two trips, one which could not get the camp stove to light, and these boys who forgot plates and utensils on the Squam Lake canoe excursion.
