Q & A’s with Kingswood’s Cast of Characters: An Introduction and Example

This is the first installment of “Q & A’s with Kingswood’s Cast of Characters.” We have a great group of returning staff, and we thought this would be a fun way to keep you updated on our staff and to help you get better acquainted with the people that make Kingswood such a special community.  Over the course of the coming days, weeks, and months, we will be regularly adding new ‘interviews.’ Usually we will announce whenever we upload a new installment via Facebook and Instagram, but we encourage you to occasionally check the website – a link to the newest installment will be found at the bottom of the home page, and all installments (and other posts) will be found by clicking the “blog” icon found in the menu bar. Enjoy!

What is your name?

Klaus

How many years have you been at Kingswood / what was your first year at Kingswood?

I’ve been at Kingswood for 27 years, starting in 1995.

How would you describe your role at Kingswood?

I pretty much get to do everything! Before camp begins I make the cabin list and help the counselors prepare for camper arrival. When camp is in session, I get to handle all camper and counselor issues, communicate with parents, coach a lot of teams, and a hopefully hike some beautiful mountains.

What is your favorite camp memory?

On the last night of the session my first summer in Hilly 4, Todd Sabiston led an ice cream clinique for the cabin and we stayed up really late (whatever that was for a 10-year-old). We took a photo that made the 1995 collage and I always smile when I think back to that night (and how young Todd, Mike Wiff, and I were).

What makes Kingswood special to you?

I get to let my guard down from the school year and hang out with the greatest people every summer right where we left off.

What is your favorite place on campus?

My ancestral home – the Fireplace cabin

What is your favorite A-block offering?

Ultimate

If you were a camper, how would you spend your B-Block?

When I was a camper, I played a lot of frisbee golf, but I also spent a lot of time on the Dining Hall steps reading.

What is your favorite Kingswood hike / trip?

Adams-Madison (though it was very tempting to say Franconia Range)

What is your favorite Kingswood special event (could be an annual event or a truly special,

we only did it once, event)?

Egg Drop

What is your favorite Kingswood meal?
Reubens
What is a skill or activity you learned at camp?
Frisbee!!
If you were stranded on a desert island and could only bring one musical album, what would you bring?
Complete Beethoven Symphonies — or In the Aeroplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel….this answer pretty much changes daily.
