Salvage Operation
July 24, 2024
Or was it? We did conduct the three-period clinic morning even though a couple of classes moved indoors or had substituted lesson plans.
As promised the counselor photos have been amended and I loved the sailing clinic photos of boys practicing capsizing on a lowery morning with no wind to speak of.
Then, at the end of rest hour, 3PM, as the skies darkened again, we all met in the Dining Room for the distribution of t-shirts and frisbees. Everyone gets a Kingswood tee, even Jack who was wearing his Kingswood tee while in the line. And, Rob made a bit of a mis-measurement for little Cam’s shirt!
Frisbees go to those boys who have been at camp for three years or longer. Yes, Klaus has about 30 camp frisbees in his personal collection.
You could see the clouds starting to lift as we concluded that bit of camp business, so out came the sponsorship board with some spur of the moment activities to get us to the 4:30 General Swim block.
Mudding? Check Sara’s album.
Running around? The idea was to capture Mr. Potato, or some such creature.
Layouts? I was there watching boys attempting diving catches of frisbees on the soccer field.
Too wet on the basketball courts for real games? No problem for veteran Andy Luther, who sponsored a lively competition featuring trick shots and long bombs.
Then the sun came out and I was thrilled to announce that we have had sunshine every day of the entire summer to date. One of my photos shows the lowest lake level in recent memory so all those rains have been somewhat welcomed. Frankly, I was pleased to see all the good supervision at free swim as the assignments for B Block were made on the run. Boys took to the lake in droves.
Then I stumbled into some boys donning backpacks and learned that we had taken a hike to a somewhat remote waterfall in Crawford Notch. Morgan got some terrific photos of this “salvage operation” as the campers concurred that this was a good choice on what promised to be a rainy day hike. They got some views after all.
