Director’s Report

Something For All Tastes

A quick inventory of both Sara’s and my photo albums reveals at least 19 different Bow & Arrow activities from yesterday.  Below is the list plus some (light) commentary:

Paddleboard (how boys keep their balance is beyond my comprehension)

Kayak (we have user-friendly craft that don’t tip over, but they do crash into one another)

Canoe (were this the Kentucky Derby, there would have been numerous foul objections, but for Kingswood – none)

Gaga (tag game with the red ball in the sandy enclosure—last guy standing wins for his team)

Gatorball (soccer game on the lacrosse goals – carrying and throwing the  ball are allowed – in this great spectator game))

Soccer (the Senior game after dinner was extremely entertaining – to me, that is, a 2-1 thriller won by the green team via a brilliant late-game header by Alex Bromfield; the losers were amazingly resilient)

Capture-the-flag (the orange cone in this case—no disagreements, imagine that!)

Touch Football (so nice to see the new Kingswood T’s being used)

Tug of war (I honed in on the losing team, and mostly when momentum was on their side)

Track meet races (great grimaces near the finish line)

Softball toss for distance (but with a narrow legal landing zone)

Frisbee toss for distance (a wider landing zone and some agonizing near-misses!)

Backstroke swim race (bop on the head with rescue life preservers on the turn)

Free style swim race (with some doggy paddle by tired swimmers)

Volleyball (lots of laughs by both teams despite the competition)

Softball (I captured the Arrows celebrating an inning-ending double play)

Riflery (Rhys’ 47 was the best score of the day)

Bocce (played on a bumpy and somewhat parched pitch)

Bean Bag (nurses alerted to potential injuries, not!)

And, speaking of “something for all tastes,” we ended the long day of B&A competition with ice cream for all, with several flavors and a variety of toppings.

Today is the last day of the current heat wave and we are having a relatively normal camp day with only one hour of B&A “Songfest” practice to break up the routine.  More on this in upcoming reports.
