“Sunshine, My Only Sunshine”

July 12, 2026

I know the above lyrics are to a love song, one we used to sing at meals when camps did that sort of thing – a long time ago.

Lots of boys, however, are loving camp and the sun has been shining for days on end. What’s to complain about? Actually, that’s the question I have been asking everyone in the past few days,

Boys thought I was nuts when they found me aggressively snapping photos before breakfast. Likely correct on the nuts part, but for the wrong reason: I wanted to get some “Right Now” photos posted. Every passer-by was a target and my largely un-edited pix are up for your pleasure. A few squints, scowls and even some eyes closed are the product. No calls or e-mails of concern, please!

Yesterday was a funny-feeling day in that half the boys were quite busy at Baker Valley Tournaments (BVT’s) while the other half were casually engaged in a host of easy games here on campus. When Matball, Trashball, Dodgeball and Tetherball are Sara’s main finds, you know that campers are enjoying a low-key day.

More easing off the pedal will happen this morning, at least, as we are into our weekly re-set known as Deep Scrub or Deep Clean. I can see out my office window where scads of trunks are outdoors and open to the drying and deodorizing effect of a full sun. Good camp.

Last evening we had a picnic supper in the extremely pleasant conditions down by the breezy lake. There was a double buzz in effect – the seniors were all dressed up in their finest in anticipation of a visit from the Camp Lochearn girls while the juniors were in high hype over the upcoming movie night in the dining room.

Accordingly, post dinner announcements were brief, and any reports on the BVT’s were held in abeyance until camp meeting today at noon. The movie-goers bolted from the council circle while the dancers very respectfully listened while Rob and Raven spoke of how important it is to be welcoming and polite to female visitors.

Both commentaries were really good and I wish I had had that sort of counseling when I was that age at camp. “Do you think we really mean this?” said Rob at the conclusion. The boys concurred and the dance went on just swell.
