“Take Me Out to the Ball Game”

August5, 2026

I forgot to take my phone to council fire last evening, so I decided to do a RIGHT NOW photo presentation in its place. Featured are folks who most likely were omitted from my “Bedhead Nominations” album of July 30.

Understandably, this is a subjective process. Leila, shown in my first photo, challenged me when I labeled her as “Bedhead”material. “I might wear this all day long,” she insisted.

I’ll be back in a bit to add today’s full blog, baseball being in the limelight, as you can surmise from the title.

Yesterday, we woke to a certain Sparkler. I kept the cloudless skies in my photos as a continual reminder how really nice it is to be here in New Hamshire, instead of where most of you are. Sorry to be so snooty

Mr. Crocodile, as I call the old tree stump residing in the lake outside our cottage window, was happy on the morning as was Waterfront cabin camper Griffin R. who I found engaging the mallard duck family who has taken residence on Mother Tarleton this summer.

Since we had the girls from Wa-Klo here for breakfast, the junior campers got the nice treat of having breakfast at the picnic tables down by the lake. The glory of it all was not lost on a single boy.

A bit later on, I fell into morning clinics and was attracted to the sailing classes which were blessed with a solid 3 rating on the Kingswood wind scale. All the while, Helga was giving guitar lessons to just three campers and Elijah hosted the Caymen golf course with 4 lads. Good instruction ratios, I would contend.

Todd and Owen had it a bit harder getting ready to shove off on a fishing trip to Newfound Lake. I love their expedition-like packing for a lone evening’s worth of angling, but that is the Kingswood methodology.

At 3pm, I stumbled onto a sailing regatta just as the “GO” command was shouted and despite all the morning sailing pix taken, I, snapped away anew, all-blue skies and that good wind having sustained.

My main goal for the day was to visit the old-time baseball game on Mem Field. Baseball is my game for sure and I met with a host of lads who share my love for America’s best pastime. Almost exactly 18 persons were in the game, testimony to Mike Wiff’s brilliant scheduling insight.

I am full of beans whenever at a ball game, so I kept asking boys for their “baseball card” poses while maintaining a steady banter throughout. Hartel did a fine job of throwing strikes for both teams as the guaranteed winning and losing pitcher of the game, a possibility, actually. “Know the rules,” I argue.

There were three home runs, 2 pickoffs, some playful “chin music,” and a steal of home by Colin N., which proved to be the winning run in a 3-2 thriller saved on a great catch by Brayden in the  last inning.

Of course, I gathered the entire entourage for a rousing rendition of “Take me out to the ball game,” to lend even more authenticity to the event, as if it needed any more!
