Today
July 5 (4) 2023
We did not completely toss in the towel until after dinner, when we had to pivot off a pivot off a pivot and declare the day a washout with regards to July 4th celebrations. First, Rob Wiff announced that “we’ll do the whole thing tomorrow and do it right.” Thereupon counselors drummed up some creative sponsorships to take the place of the planned concert and fireworks events, when suddenly Mike burst into the Dining Room and hurriedly summoned everyone to the Main Lodge, a better place to wait out the oncoming deluge. Personally, I ran back to my cottage and missed all the fun. Mike posted the following on the staff network:
“Thank you to everyone who made tonight such a success. The vibe in the Main Lodge was excellent. Thank you to everyone that helped with ice cream, crowd control, music, and playing board games and card games with the campers. Your leadership and energy made the night.”
Just now at breakfast I noticed a good buzz still in the air as counselors praised one another for various acts of heroism last evening. Des had the good sense to raid the freezer where he found enough ice cream to treat the entire camp to a spontaneous party. Nathan’s highlight occurred when a double rainbow appeared across the lake and a large contingent of boys went out on the Main Lodge porch to soak in the view. Suddenly, and equally as spontaneous as the ice cream heist, everyone broke out in singing the Star Spangled Banner with great enthusiasm.
I am going to stop right here and simply inform you to come back again and again to both News and Photos as we plan to put up reports as we go. I am going to post a few pix taken JUST NOW at breakfast and keep adding them as the day ensues.
