Director’s Report

“Use Soap”

For whatever reason, neither Sara nor I took any photos yesterday, so I was early to breakfast this morning to compensate with one of my tricks of taking photos of everyone who passes my way and racing down to the office to publish them under the heading of “Right Now.”

I was flabbergasted to hear Nathan standing near the hand washing sinks announcing, repeatedly, “Use soap,” a suggestion I had never considered in all my years at camp.  One can be forgiven for assuming that with a soap dispenser every few feet along the wall just above the water pipe line, boys would automatically squirt a dollop of the goo onto their hands.  Of course, by hearing Nathan it dawned on me that boys can profit from the gentle reminder!

Yesterday was a normal day and all boys and counselors went about their daily routines without much ado. Showers were expected in the late afternoon and, of course, they disappointed us by being on time and pretty hard.  We went out and bought a rain gage, this being the summer to ponder such accumulations, and it read over one-half inch in an hour’s time.

The mood was swell at dinner, and I can attribute this to having a swell bunch of counselors who are fun-loving, creative, and most willing to engage the campers in all their antics. This formula works every time and this fellow knew weeks ago that we had such a staff group in our employ.

Today features a full day of tournaments with the Baker Valley Camps nearby. Below are the boys who are participating in this morning’s games, a cut/paste from Mike’s spreadsheet.  The names did not render in order but you can figure out what game your son is playing from this list:

If you don’t see your son’s name on a roster, fret not as there are scads of other options available.

There are oodles of remarkable photos taken by staff on trips and some of the special activities of the week.  You cannot look at these pix without thinking about how lucky your sons are to be able to have the summer camp experience.
