Director’s Report

B Block Paradise

At 4:30 on a regular day (horray!) B Block kicks in.  Boys, and many staff too, are free to go anywhere on the supervised property that they please.  Lifeguards bear the brunt of having very precise assignments while other counselors are usually scheduled to be in an area to keep an eye on things.

You can tell when we have really good staff members by their willingness to jump in there and actually BE with the campers when dozing in a lounge chair in the vicinity might technically be a legal position!

I took a spin about the grounds yesterday during B Block and found very many things going on to my liking.  You may wish to consult my “July 13” album as a companion to this blog.

We are a camp of frisbee players and my argument is that there never is a time when there is not a disk whirling through the air at Kingswood. The saturated grounds in front of my cottage stopped no one and some enterprising lads on hole #7 took aim at the golf flag (dry ground) instead of the frisbee pole stuck in the slime.

General swim always is an option during this time period.  The beauty of this arrangement is that boys come and go depending on other options they have or maybe in coordination with the lottery number they drew for tube rides.

I loved it when I got to Pines Field to discover cricket and wiffleball taking place side by side.  Both were casual games with some good teasing back and forth for both good and not so good plays. It did not appear that keeping serious score was occurring.  Good camp. Note that I kept coming back to that setting and from both near and afar so that you could gain a good perspective on this relaxing time of day.

Personally, I like to see overnight camping trips that do not have to travel by van very far from home.  The trail to Sunset Cliffs is about two minutes down the road and you can see a couple of photos of boys using B Block to get organized for the trek. They, too, could smell the hot dogs and burgers being cooked by Ivan and that was another good reason to wait until after the meal to depart.  I’m confident they built a campfire and toasted marshmallows at their summit campsite.

The last four photos of my set are after-dinner pix taken on the first “Mr. Wiff’s Ferrari Boat Tour” of the summer.  We were treated to a loon conference of five, four of whom left the 5th one behind. I’ve been told that our two-loon lake is a top-prize paradise and those creatures maintain a keen eye on one another.  Just like us!
