Not Quite in the Soup
July 10, 2024
Check my photos in what is a rare mid-week RIGHT NOW presentation. We had overnight company in the form of a group of older campers from Camp WaKlo for girls in southern New Hampshire. They arrived last evening just as the dinner bell sounded and got to sit through a very funny skit (subject: yours truly and his bad conduct over the years!) before having a dance in the Main Lodge with our seniors.
Younger campers, meaning everyone 13 and under, got some good sponsorships plus s’mores down at the council fire area.
Last night’s meal was a picnic which made it far easier to accommodate the much larger group than normal and I awoke this morning wondering how breakfast would work. When another picnic format appeared on the horizon, I grabbed my camera and you are the beneficiary of that decision.
We have had some southerly breezes lately and that brings more humidity. It is mostly cloudy currently, as you can see from my photo from just minutes ago. That helps a lot to keep the temperatures down to not only a tolerable level but some might even argue it makes for a comfortable setting.
Yesterday, at the heat of the day – 3PM or so – it was truly hot and the fix was to divide the afternoon into three segments instead of the usual two (A and B Block) with two of the three being around the water, if “slip & slide” down the hill counts as a water activity. Sara devoted nearly her entire photo day to this event and her photos of this event and the start of the evening soiree make for good viewing.
I had a good laugh at dinner when someone remarked that so many showers were taken between 5 and 6PM that the hot water tanks were emptied and the last patrons got the cold treatment. They treat the slip & slide tarps with soap, you see, and boys, not appreciating having this gooey substance all over their bodies, respond afterwards by taking a shower!
P.S. The Internet still is in an odd mood, and sometimes is spotty or very slow, the latter being our current status. If you ever fail to hear from us in the usual timely fashion, that is the reason and we will post the very second that the gremlins depart.
