It has been two weeks since we said goodbye to second session campers and staff. While camp may be over for you readers, it surely is not nearly complete to us. The photos in today’s report show you some of the chores we have been tackling:
Mr. Bucky Beaver, who lives down the lake a couple hundred yards – our nearest neighbor – has been busy chewing up trees in anticipation of the upcoming winter. He seems to have a preference for our most decorative trees, so we have had to put up some screens to suggest he shop elsewhere.
Then you see Rob on the garden tractor, aerating your beloved Pines Field. He has punched every heavy traffic area on the grounds and soon will fertilize plus over-seed the bare spots.
Dan loves to play on that York rake and he is good at it, too. Parts of the camp road were eroded due to the heavy rain downfalls of the summer. I was amazed that it did not take him that long to repair all the damage. He even raked the sailing beach to make life easier next summer for those of you who get this job on Sunday campus cleanup duty. He even expanded the staff parking lot behind the basketball court. Yes, that area is home to the towers for ten of the twelve months of the year. Aren’t you glad the slide does not have feelings, which surely would be hurt by being torn from its noble perch on the surface of Mother Tarleton.
Becky has been attending meetings in Hanover, prior to taking on her new job as reading specialist in the local school system. But, she never misses those fantastic evenings on the Main Lodge porch.
I, Mr. Wiff, enjoy painting. It is quiet work. One can easily see progress. And, the wood does not talk back to me like boys do! The Shupe cottage is nearly done as I write these words.
Mrs. Wiff has 1000 things on her list. Off she went one day to Sunset Point, only to discover Michael V’s sun glasses at the campsite. Her best move of the week was to stop by Fat Bob’s ice cream stand, where their new T-shirts had just arrived. It took us no time at all to come up with a great re-enrollment incentive. Here it is:
2014 EARLY ENROLLMENT PROMOTION
For those campers whose parents submit the $800 deposit by October 1, they will earn a trip to both the fish hatchery plus Fat Bob’s. Mom and dad, too, will save $100 off the tuition. Honestly, the hatchery part of the excursion intrigues me: Imagine a van load of boys, all purchasing a fist full of food pellets and tossing them en masse into the holding pond. Those fish will go crazy!
Then it is off to Fat Bob’s for ice cream.
But wait. There is more than just ice cream awaiting the boys at Fat Bob’s. We are working with the ice cream folks to come up with a custom-designed Kingswood-Fat Bob’s shirt. We might keep that part a secret, but every boy who gets enlisted by mom and dad will get one of these shirts.
TO REPEAT: A KINGSWOOD-FAT BOB’S T-SHIRT. BETTER ASK YOUR SON RIGHT NOW IF HE WANTS THIS PRIZE!
Thank you, Mrs. Wiff. We knew those glasses would turn up. Keep them at the camp – MV is coming back. Have a wonderful fall.
