Autumn is a great time to be at camp. The weather usually is quite nice, and, of course, you cannot beat those New England colors. Moreover, this is the best time of year to disturb the property with new projects as the ground is both dry and has plenty of time to recover before the following summer’s onslaught. We think you will appreciate our efforts to enhance the place and — read all the way to the end — might even want to one day bring your special event to Kingswood during one of those upcoming fall seasons when we are not tearing up the joint!
My favorite view down the hill…ah, so pretty. But, something is missing…Where are those electric wires? We dug a big hole…and buried the darn things. Furthermore: See that trench going towards Sports Shed cabin? It’s real target is Kiln Cabin, which will be doubled in size. More on this later, but as a hint, I can tell you that the existing Kiln will be moved to these foundations and the new part will be where the old cabin was located. Long story…Part of the reason for all of this commotion is that Dan…has spent most of his autumn, not hunting, but redesigning Bubbler and Hilly 1 to be “little guy” friendly. The capacity has been shrunk from 12 to 10 in both cabins, to make room for extra storage space — even drawers for each junior camper.Hilly 4, too, now has a new back door. Not only will the lighting be improved, but they will receive an umbrella picnic table for their “hang out area.” Of course, the idea is to give each cabin something special to distinguish it from all the others.
Meanwhile, we think that lots of the surface water that ends up in the cabin areas flows off the soccer field and down the hill. So, we dug a drainage ditch across the far end of Mem Field…Miles approves. We’ll see. And, to finish the autumn intrusions, we expanded the parking lot across the road and burned most of the debris piles that were there before. What remains, of course…is a spectacular autumn setting…that is second to that of nobody. After camp ended this past summer, we rented out the facility to a delightful family from the Burlington area for the wedding of their son. Everyone loved the setting, many lingered as long as they could, and they left the campus in ship-shape order. We could not have asked for more. After camp ends, the weather is often perfect. Sunny days of August give way to cooler nights in September, culminating in the gorgeous colors of fall in October. There are at least two months of opportunities to make use of the property. Kingswood might be a great place for camp families to hold that special event – be it a wedding, reunion or some other celebration. If you have interest in a “destination” gathering, get in touch with Rob and Becky: wipfler@kingswoodcamp.com or 603-795-2235.

This pretty much is exactly what “in the years that follow closely, Kingswood Camp will grow” brings to mind.
I’m excited to see what the final product looks like
