Photos Tell the Story

Morgan and Scott returned from the Ethan Pond hike with extraordinary enthusiasm. The boys had had a marvelous time and nailed three summits on the Varsity Club wheel. Hiking conditions: near perfect; crowds, sparse. Check that pic I filched from Morgan’s gallery and put up as my featured photo. That’s about as good a group reflection picture as you ever will see. To be framed.
Many thanks to folks besides Morgan who contribute their efforts. Sara has set up Week 2 counselor photos. I like the one of the Main Lodge all lit up for the dance with Wa-Klo.
Todd honored Eli for the biggest fish catch of the summer with a trophy (possession temporary) – see the Cliff Island 7/8 – for that whopper pulled out of nearby Newfound Lake.
Sara likes to accompany the flotillas that often head up the lake (it flows south to north) to White Sands. Most of her album of yesterday features this favorite haunt.
Mt. Cardigan is a great first-time hike so long as you take the easy trail, which we did. In my day, we took older boys and ascended one of the steepest trails in the White Mountains. Choices! The long-since abandoned fire tower improves the already nice 360-degree view. The photo most notable is the squadron of tadpoles in a summit puddle. How does that happen?
Of course, I go out daily in search of pix that, while no match for Sara’s brilliance, often require some explanation, which I am happy to offer as it fills this space!
There is Robin in the blue Kingswood shirt overseeing tie dying. She and her three sons have been to Kingswood since the 1990’s. Her family owns the big house at the northern end of the lake that once was part of the Lake Tarleton Club. She is here every day unless boys head down to her place for porcelain duties. A&C is very popular with many campers and we often post photos without any needed explanations.
Raven organized a scavenger hunt for A Block yesterday as part of the camp’s effort to ease off the throttle a bit after a bruising pace in all this heat. I thought boys were asked to find items in nature, such as Jake’s rock with a face on it. But James and Jamie requested a pose so they could draw a portrait of me!
I captured two photos of counselors on B Block patrol. The idea is to observe the boys while not meddling in their free time unless they are needed to preserve the peace!
Those CIT’s playing tetherball while eating apples gave me both a start and a fast laugh!
Lastly, we keep winning and winning games with other camps. Kudos go especially to Ezra, who was so good at U-15 basketball that he was heckled by the opposition. He can cringe all the way to Moose Scoops ice cream.
