Director’s Report

Opening Day, 2013

Monday, June 24, 9:13 am.  The boys were very cooperative at breakfast this morning.  It took only 34 minutes to feed the largest group we have ever had in our 29 years at the helm.  All old-timers know the average to be 37 minutes.  Anyway, it is going to be a very hot day today.  At least three counselors spoke of the importance of wearing sunblock and staying hydrated.  Mike Wiff, Program Director, already is planning on quite a few water-related activities this afternoon.  Below are the photos from yesterday afternoon and evening.  Those swim tests went on in phases, as many boys got  really hot/sweaty up the hill at frisbee games, soccer, basketball, tennis and football.  I personally can attest to the lake being a great treat afterwards.  Introductions got started in the council fire area but moved indoors when we heard thunder boomers in the distance.  We got just the edge of the showers, not bad at all.  The kids signed up for their first week morning clinics at dinner and then broke up into cabin meetings to review the camp rules — all of which are fair, sensible and easy to both remember  plus obey.   As I write these words, the campers are cleaning up their bunks for the initial time this summer.  The Inspector General will go around to check up on the boys’ efforts in about 10 minutes, when the first clinics of the summer commence.

  1. Mr. Wiff – Boys and counselors look so happy to be out of classrooms and into the big world of wilderness! ? – what is the temperature of Mother Tarleton?
